If you’ve applied for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in Indiana, staying informed about your claim’s progress is crucial. Here’s how you can check the status of your disability application:

Find out if you qualify for SSDI benefits. Pre-qualify in 60 seconds for up to $4,018 per month and 12 months back pay.

Please answer a few questions to help us determine your eligibility.

Use Your my Social Security Account

The most convenient way to check your disability status is through your personal my Social Security account:

  • Sign in to your account at www.ssa.gov/myaccount.
  • On the My Home page, scroll down to the Your Benefit Applications section.
  • Click View Details under the More Info heading.
  • In the Application Details section, you can see the current status of your application, including any updates or actions required.

If you don't have an account, you can create one for free on the same page.

Call the SSA National Helpline

If you prefer to speak with someone directly, you can call the Social Security Administration (SSA):

  • Phone: 1-800-772-1213 (TTY: 1-800-325-0778)
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET

When prompted, say “application status” to be directed to the appropriate department.

Contact the Indiana Disability Determination Bureau

For claims processed in Indiana, you can also reach out to the Indiana Disability Determination Bureau (DDB):

  • Phone: 1-800-622-4968
  • Ask the operator for the examiner assigned to your claim. Their contact information is typically provided in the correspondence you received from the DDB.

Visit Your Local SSA Office

If you prefer in-person assistance, you can visit your local Social Security office. Use the SSA Office Locator to find the nearest office in Indiana.

Tips for Checking Your Disability Status

  • Have Your Information Ready: Before contacting any office, ensure you have your Social Security number, date of birth, and any correspondence from the SSA or DDB.
  • Be Patient: Processing times can vary. If your claim is pending, it may take several months for a decision.
  • Keep Records: Maintain copies of all communications and documents related to your disability claim.
